MC Lars
Why am I only hearing and watching this song for the first time... today?
I blame each and every one of you. How this missed my radar is blowing my mind.
MC Lars and his outrageously funny and awesome track "Signing Emo"
For the uninitiated, yes, this is exactly how it's fucking done in this business.
Hilariousness. x
History of Hip Hop
Mind = Blown
Timberlake and Fallon team up with the Roots crew for a historical hip hop medley.
Absolutely incredible.
Na Na Na
The new My Chemical Romance single is way, way, way fun.
"Na Na Na" is not just catchy, it's a pop rock anthem. And I fucking love it.
Well played, Jersey boys.
Every Little Step
This clip definitely brightened my morning, in this rain-drenched city.
Wayne Brady and Mike Tyson doing Bobby Brown's "Every Little Step" is kind of awesome.
Tyson's dancing is fucking hilarious. But I would never say that to his face. Fact.
Attorney General Stalker
The Michigan Assistant Attorney General is stalking a young gay man.
You have to watch this. It's surreal. Absolutely fucking surreal.
Go Anderson Cooper.

Legendary Wake Up
More John Legend and the Roots crew, live at Terminal 5 in New York City.

The Whiskey
In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.org - Tisa Mylar, a manager at the Whisky A GoGo, goes into detail about the Whisky's merchandise percentages and how the money gets divided up on different nights at the club.
I am saying this right here, right now...
As many of you know, I will open up a rock club one day very soon. And I will never, EVER, take a percentage of a band's merch.
Fact.

TX650 Custom
This right here is why I love the vintage custom scene. It's simple, elegant, but also a mean motherfucker.
The brown and white are simply gorgeous. Well done.
As always, from the legendary Bike EXIF:
Yamaha’s XS650 has become one of the ubiquitous custom platforms. With a production run of around 13 years from 1970 onwards, there are still plenty around. This custom is the second project from a new Australian outfit called the Modern Motor Cycle Company; it isn’t slick by any means, but it has a certain rugged charm. ‘MMCC 02‘ is based on a 1974 TX650, which was part of the XS650 model family. (The TX version was given a new frame and swingarm to improve handling, a larger tank, and alloy rims similar to those on the W-series bikes.) The bike was a non-runner when bought by its owner James Cecil (of the band Super Melody), and he briefed MMCC to create a rat-style custom that retained the original tank—with its beautiful porcelain-like, cracked paint finish—and the original brown headlight bucket.
MMCC then fitted shortened aluminum fenders, clip-ons, new instruments, and a vintage-style taillight. A new wiring harness was built in-house, and the battery relocated out of sight. A serious performance jolt comes from a pair of Mikuni round-slide carburetors, free-flowing air filters and reverse-cone megaphone mufflers, plus a Boyer Bransden electronic ignition kit. MMCC’s next two projects are Honda twins from 1973: a CB350, and a CB175. Can’t wait to see what they do with them.
Target Ain't People

We Shall See
Before he'd served even one year President, Obama lost the support of the easily distracted left and engendered the white-hot rage of the hate-filled right. But some of us, from all walks of life and ideological backgrounds -- including this white, straight, 57-year old, former religious right wing agitator, now progressive writer and (given my background as the son of a famous evangelical leader) this unlikely Obama supporter, are sticking with our President.
We faithful Obama supporters still trust our initial impression of him as a great, good and uniquely qualified man to lead us. Obama's steady supporters will be proved right. Obama's critics will be remembered as easily panicked and prematurely discouraged at best and shriveled hate mongers at worst.
The Context of the Obama Presidency
Not since the days of the rise of fascism in Europe, the Second World War and the Depression has any president faced more adversity. Not since the Civil War has any president led a more bitterly divided country. Not since the introduction of racial integration has any president faced a more consistently shortsighted and willfully ignorant opposition- from both the right and left. As the President's poll numbers have fallen so has his support from some on the left that were hailing him as a Messiah not long ago; all those lefty websites and commentators that were falling all over themselves on behalf of our first black president during the 2008 election. The left's lack of faith has become a self-fulfilling "prophecy"-- snipe at the President and then watch the poll numbers fall and then pretend you didn't have anything to do with it!
Here is what Obama faced when he took office-- none of which was his fault:
§ An ideologically divided country to the point that America was really two countries
§ Two wars; one that was mishandled from the start, the other that was unnecessary and immoral
§ The worst economic crisis since the depression
§ America 's standing in the world at the lowest point in history
§ A country that had been misled into accepting the use of torture of prisoners of war
§ A health care system in free fall.
§ An educational system in free fall.
§ A global environmental crisis of history-altering proportions (about which the Bush administration and the Republicans had done nothing).
§ An impasse between culture warriors from the right and left.
§ A huge financial deficit inherited from the terminally irresponsible Bush administration.
Small Business
This is one of the best pieces of investigative journalism I have seen all year.
Kudos, Mr. Olbermann, on a job well done. It's nice to see someone still investigates out there.
Ms. Pelosi actually thanked Keith by name last week for the special, but doubt she'll fucking do anything about it.
The Dems are fucking useless. And I am so tired of it.
The Truth Hurts
These two gentlemen, along with Jon Stewart, are my favorite Americans.
Men who are unafraid to speak their mind and never, ever distort the truth.
They seek only to expose the lies...
! ! ! (Chk Chk Chk)
These guys are fucking sick. If they come to your town, get your ass to the venue that night.
This is their new song, "AM/FM"
I saw them just after their first album came out at Bowery Ballroom a few years back.
From the first note, the entire room turned into a raging dance party. A truly unforgettable night.
I try to catch them at least once a year.
And if you're curious, look up their older stuff. It's fire. x

It Gets Better
Dan Savage is a writer with a weekly, continent-wide, sindicated sex column entitled, "Savage Love"
I am a huge fan and read his letters every week in the Village Voice.
By now you have heard about the sad story of the young gay boy who killed himself after relentless bullying from his high school classmates.
So Dan and his husband started this video page called "It Gets Better" as a place for gay adults to reach out to the youth of America and let them know that it really does get better.
What an amazing human being. I have a good feeling this truly is going to help a lot of scared and lonely kids out there.
One love. x
From Dan and Terry:
If you're gay or lesbian or bi or trans, and you've ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, "Fuck, I wish I could've told him that it gets better," this is your chance. We can't help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there—other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don't think they have a future—and we can help them....

Legend & the Roots Crew
My man Burton shot this link over my way. And I am so glad he did...
I must admit, I have basically ignored the John Legend / Roots collaboration for the last few months.
Not because I don't like John Legend, I'm just not a big fan. Until now.
I am a huge Roots fan. The legendary Roots Crew puts on the best hip hop show around. Fact.
But this live studio take of "Hard Times" is just so damn cool...
Enjoy. x
Computers Want Me Dead

The Limousines
I am really diggin this Bay Area band, The Limousines.
Here is their fantastic video for a brilliantly-titled "Internet Killed the Radio Star"
And listen to those lyrics...
The kids are disco dancin'
They're tired of rock n roll
Don't bother tellin' them that drum machine aint got no soul

Wheezy Is Not Human
Lil Wayne's Cash Money Records just released this video for his upcoming EP, "I Am Not Human"
He's got about a month and a half left in federal prison, but when he gets out there will be lots of new stuff.
This dude never stops working. Even from jail.
The Dog Video
A really great piece on the amazing OK GO video, from Gizmodo:
There's not much else to say about OK Go's new video, except that 1) it's awesome, 2) it features awesome dogs, and 3) the song—White Knuckles—is awesomely good, to the level of the best Prince.
Actually, there's a lot more to say. This is how it all happened: OK Go approached training company Talented Animals with an idea for a video in which dogs would be the stars. They wanted something "magical and charming," according to Talented Animals' Roland Sonnenburg, "something that has never been done before." Sonnenburg replied that anything that was physically possible could be done by dogs, so yes, there was no problem with that idea.
It was then when Damian Kulash—OK Go's lead vocals and guitar—told him that the video should be done in one single take, no cuts whatsoever. Sonnenburg thought it was impossible:
Sonnenburg explained to Damian that it was going to be the most difficult video with animals ever made, requiring 12 dogs and 12 trainers (and a goat) to be perfectly synchronized to pull through three minutes and thirty-six seconds of intense choreography between the canines and the four band members.
And practiced they did. The training team rehearsed the routines for weeks, with each dog practicing his or her moves with each own trainer, using unique cues for each of them. When things started to look good, the band came in and got integrated with the dogs, tweaking the choreography until it was exactly what they had in mind. They only had a few days to go of the complete four week schedule, the dogs were ready to be put together and do the whole video choreography with the band for the first time... but only at half the speed.
Time passed and they kept rehearsing until there were only four days to go. It was time to film. It wasn't until take 49 when things clicked, dogs, band, and music all in perfect synchronization. It was on take 60 when new problem appeared: The dogs were doing it perfectly and enjoying it. But they were enjoying it so much that they started to do it faster than than the music. They had to correct that and, with just one day to go, everything really worked out for the first time:
At the end of the four week schedule, they had 124 takes, 30 of them complete. Of those, 10 were excellent, according to Sonnenburg, but it was the 72—"Somehow it came across on screen that this was real and had integrity"—which was considered the perfect one. That's the take you can watch again and again above. [Talented Animals]

Fucking rad.
Katy and Elmo

Pinheads or Patriots
Can I please get a "BOTH"?
I will never question a person's patriotism. Because I am immensely offended when mine is...
That being said, I can assure you that these both are definitely pinheads.
Powell vs Gingrich
Newt Gingrich needs to go the way of the Dodo. And sooner than later.
The man is disgusting, and has absolutely no problem lying to the American people.
Thank you, Col. Powell. We need more honesty in Washington.
Rally to Restore Sanity
FINALLY.
Ever since Glenn "raving fucking lunatic" Beck announced his bullshit rally in D.C. I have been saying, "why doesn't Jon Stewart host one?"
For weeks. Literally. Every night, as I watched the Daily Show, I would hope he would pull off something like this.
And then, last week, he began to joke about a massive, upcoming announcement. And all I could do was hope.
I am so fucking there. Inauguration style. We are gonna take the Chinatown bus to D.C. on October 30, 2010.
Who's with me?
From the Rally to Restore Sanity:
"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!"
Who among us has not wanted to open their window and shout that at the top of their lungs?
Seriously, who?
Because we're looking for those people. We're looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn't be the only ones that get heard; and who believe that the only time it's appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that person is actually Hitler. Or Charlie Chaplin in certain roles.
Are you one of those people? Excellent. Then we'd like you to join us in Washington, DC on October 30 -- a date of no significance whatsoever -- at the Daily Show's "Rally to Restore Sanity." Ours is a rally for the people who've been too busy to go to rallies, who actually have lives and families and jobs (or are looking for jobs) -- not so much the Silent Majority as the Busy Majority. If we had to sum up the political view of our participants in a single sentence... we couldn't. That's sort of the point.
Think of our event as Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement; the Million Man March, only a lot smaller, and a bit less of a sausage fest; or the Gathering of the Juggalos, but instead of throwing our feces at Tila Tequila, we'll be actively *not* throwing our feces at Tila Tequila. Join us in the shadow of the Washington Monument. And bring your indoor voice. Or don't. If you'd rather stay home, go to work, or drive your kids to soccer practice... Actually, please come anyway. Ask the sitter if she can stay a few extra hours, just this once. We'll make it worth your while.
Watch Jon's call-to-reasonableness on The Daily Show.
Keep checking back for updates and rally information.

BMW R60/2 Custom
When the apocalypse comes, this is what I want to be riding... Are you fucking kidding me?
I can not even fathom a more badass, terrifying piece of iron on the road - on Earth.
These guys are killing me with this bike.
As usual, from Bike EXIF:
In the car world, you often see “murdered out” vehicles, painted completely black for a sleek and sinister look. You occasionally see it in the motorcycling world—Steve Jones’ Ducati being an example—but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fifty-year-old classic motorcycle given the “murder” look. This traffic-stopping machine, called “Great Escape“, is a 1963 BMW R60/2 customized by Blitz Motorcycles of France. Hugo, Léo and Fred have restored this 594 cc (36 ci), shaft-driven Boxer twin, powdercoated the frame, fork and handlebar in matt black, and then used high-temperature black for the engine.
The bike was completely rewired, stripped of its fenders and fitted with 18” Mitas Enduro tires. It’s a look that seems to suit the bike, especially with that oddball swing-arm suspension at the front as well as the back. Ein schönes Motorrad, ja? [Blitz are building quite a portfolio of rough-hewn customs—there are Kawasaki, Triumph and Yamaha creations on the Blitz website.

Brooklyn "Tornado"
I only caught the edge of this gnarly storm, as I was at work on the west side of Manhattan when it hit.
But it was definitely one of the worst storms I have ever experienced in New York, which only lasted about an hour.

The Party of No
A message from the Republican Party...
Absolutely brilliant. You can deny it all you want, but they are truly The Party of No.
Just today, The Senate passed a $30 Billion fund to help struggling small businesses. Only two Republicans voted for it. Two. For small businesses.
You Republicans should be ashamed of your party leadership. I know I am.

Murakami in Versailles
This is just incredible. I've been a fan of Murakami for a while now, but imagine seeing this exhibit? Wow.
The contrast of his brightly-colored, and mildly insane, pop art against the classic art and designs of Versaille.
Beautiful is a drastic understatement.
From Flavorwire:
Following on the heels of celebrated exhibitions by Jeff Koons and Xavier Veilhan, Japanese Pop artist Takashi Murakami is taking the Château of Versailles by storm with a show of manga-inspired sculptures opening today. Grandiose in scope and scale and seductive in the masterful use of materials, Murakami’s comical cast of characters is perfectly matched with the rooms and gardens of Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette’s ornate palace.
Although not everyone is happy to see the controversial artist’s work displayed in the French national treasure, particularly the country’s conservatives, Murakami seems thrilled with the historical mash-up. “I am The Cheshire Cat who greets Alice in Wonderland with his devilish grin, and chatters on as she wanders around the Château,” says the artist, in reference to one of his works on view. And then, sounding a bit like Walt Disney hyping his amusement park in a 1960s commercial, he adds, “With my playful smile, I invite you all to the Wonderland of Versailles.”
Twenty-two works by Murakami, of which eleven are new, are spread out over 15 rooms of the estate, as well as its glorious grounds. “Contemporary artistic creation allows another perception of this living, ever-changing monument,” states Laurent Le Bon, the director of the Centre Pompidou-Metz and curator of the exhibition, who sees the show as “a new labyrinth of Versailles, that has the purpose of both distracting and entertaining the viewer.”
Murakami-Versailles is on view at the Château of Versailles, outside of Paris, through December 12.
Jeffrey Lewis
My limey wanker of a mate - and brilliant songwriter - Paul Coltofeanu - just sent me this clip.
Here is Jeffrey Lewis' song and video for "Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror"

From YouTube:
Some say 1974-1975 was one of the funkiest years ever, with the Miles electric band, Herbie and the Headhunters, James Brown, and Stevie Wonder slingin' their funk across the nation, but I say 1997-1998 is just as funky. Sex and Candy
This is absolutely ridiculous. And this woman is now a member of the Republican Party!
From HeadCount:
Here's the clip that, now that conservative activist and TV pundit Christine O'Donnell has won the Republican U.S. Senate primary in Delaware, may end up being the defining YouTube video leading up to the November election. On MTV's "Sex in the 90's" show, she and other members of an organization she founded talk about why pleasing yourself is a sin.
O'Donnell shocked the so-called experts and the Republican Party establishment last night by beating nine-term Congressman Mike Castle for the nomination. The party spent millions to keep O'Donnell off the ticket, flooding voters with recorded phone calls from her former campaign manager calling her a "fraud." The chair of the Delaware Republican party publicly said she could not be elected "dog catcher" in the state. Even George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove questioned her character on Fox News following the win.
Still, an endorsement from Sarah Palin and the backing of the now unquestionably-powerful Tea Party movement drove O'Donnell to the victory.
Her win crystallizes the narrative of the 2010 midterm elections. All over the country, Tea Party candidates have beaten party-backed Republicans in primaries, putting ultra-conservative candidates with little political experience on the ticket. In a year when Democrats are polling at an all-time low and turnout in Democratic primaries was its lowest on record, this may be the only shot the Dems have of winning voters - this possibility that the Tea Party candidates are unelectable beyond the primaries.
But it would be a mistake to dismiss the Tea Party candidates as not being a formidable populist force. Their primary wins demonstrate just how angry voters are and just how popular the Tea Party platform of less government and lower taxes has become. Trying to marginalize Tea Party candidates didn't work for the Republican establishment in Delaware, and might not work for Democrats in November.
With Rand Paul leading in the polls in Kentucky, and Palin-favorite Joe Miller on the Republican ticket in staunchly Republican Alaska, at least a handful of Tea Partiers are expected to be "shaking up" Washington next year.
Perhaps O'Donnell will join them. But if you see her shaking, we at least know it's not because she's doing anything naughty under her desk.

883 Sportster
This site has become my go-to porn site on the wonderful world-wide web.
As usual, from the greatest custom bike blog on the internets, Bike EXIF:
Over forty years ago, there was a television commercial that asked, “Have you ever wondered how the snow plow driver gets to work?” The answer was in a VW Beetle. In the same vein, I’ve often wondered what machines custom motorcycle designers choose. Well, this is the bike that Wakako Togashi, designer at Hide Motorcycle, rides to work every day. It’s based on a 2002 Harley-Davidson Sportster 883R, and Wakako describes it as “very comfortable riding”. The concept is “Old racer and dirt tracker”, and Wakako has fitted a custom fuel tank, rear fender and leather seat. He’s also liberally sprinkled his Sportster with parts from the HideMo catalog, including new bars, an air cleaner cover and a tail lamp and license plate kit.
Little details abound, including new turn signals, coils and even a new key cylinder, while the tires are the requisite classic-look Firestones. Exhaust duties are taken care of by a beefy 2-into-2 SuperTrapp muffler, and the whole shebang has been lowered for better handling. It’s a sharp lookin’ machine, but equally importantly for a commuter bike, it’s as reliable as a stock Harley. It might not get Wakako to work in the snow, but it’ll certainly stop the traffic.

"9500 Liberty" will be shown on the MTV Networks starting with a premiere event on Sept. 26th, 2010 at 8 PM ET/PT. Annabel Park and Eric Byler will be hosting a webcast premiere party from the Coffee Party Convention in Louisville, KY.

"9500 Liberty" tells the story of the only time in American history where an SB 1070 style law (written by the same anti-immigration lobbying firm that wrote SB 1070) was actually put into effect. For 2 months in early 2008, Prince William County implemented a law that required police to check the immigration status of its residents based on a subjective standard of suspicion. The measure was repealed by unanimous vote after the economic, legal, fiscal and public safety implications of the law became apparent.
This interview was conducted by Chuck Alton for Cochise Talk in Bisbee, Arizona.

The measure was repealed by unanimous vote after the economic, legal, fiscal and public safety implications of the law became apparent.

Maroon 5
Maroon 5 just released the video for their 2nd single off the new album, "Give a Little More"
Song is pretty tight. I'm diggin the soulful disco vibe.
But the video is a fucking scorcher.
I haven't seen that many smokin hot chicks in one room since my buddy's bachelor party at the Hustler Club...
More, please. x
Mt. Desolation

Photo of the Week
I think it is time to introduce a new addition to this blog... The Photo of the Week.
This one is courtesy of College Humor, and my friend B-Rock, aka Brian. Thank you, sir.
Happy motherfucking Friday, gentlemen.
How Cleverly
This is one of the funniest things I have seen all week. Hat tip to Nico for this one...
The Cleverlys sing the 80s hit, Walk Like an Eqyptian, a bluegrass cover by The Bangles. The Cleverly Trio is a bluegrass group with five members. This song was filmed at Cleverlyfest, an annual bluegrass festival/ family reunion.
Amazeballs. Thank you, Interweb. x
Willow Smith
I would offer some witty commentary on this, but I'll just leave it to HitFix...
Should Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith ever go through a career slump, they are grooming the next generation to support them. Following son Jaden’s breakthrough in the “Karate Kid” remake, comes word that daughter Willow has signed a record deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation Records. Oh, did we mention that Willow is 9?
First single, “Whip My Hair,” about, yes, taking on haters and whipping your hair back and forth, has caused an internet sensation. Smith sounds like a pint-sized Rihanna--startlingly so--full of attitude and brio more than pure singing talent. The verses are much better than the endless repeating of “I whip my hair back and forth,” which is whiplash-inducing. No word on if she’s working on an album or if she wrote the song.
Oh, by the way, the press release also calls Willow “a trendsetter.” From the picture released with the announcement and her red carpet appearances, I guess that’s what you call a kid who dresses like she’s 9 going on 25 these days. I smell a fashion line forthcoming. The whole thing makes me slighty queasy, but I’m sure Willow’s parents felt her talent simply couldn’t be denied.
Stay tuned. We expect by the end of the week Suri Cruise will announce a five-picture deal at Sony.
Voxhaul Broadcast
I went to see an LA band on Wednesday called Voxhaul Broadcast at Fontana's in China Town.
My buddy is handling their PR and invited me to the showcase.
Obviously, I go to a lot of showcases. And am rarely blown away. But this was different.
This band has got it all. My friend and I ended up partying with the band til Midnight. Great guys, cool manager, big sound, killer rock n roll.
This is a Marc Jacobs ad they just scored. Song is entitled, "Leaving on the 5th"
Well done, boys.
Enjoy... x
Somewhere Else
A buddy in LA just sent these dudes my way.
Somewhere Else. Song is called "Grease"
This is some of the hottest hip hop I have heard all year.
Just reached out to them to see where they're at right now.
I want to blow this the fuck up.
Burn a Quran Day
By now, I am sure many of you have heard of the raving lunatic, Dr. Terry Jones.
He is yet another radical Christian with the audacity, and irony, to preach against radical Muslims.
You really can't get more ridiculous than these people.
So then us "sane people" make funny videos like this one. Love it. x
Flute Funk
And another Karl find...
This dude killing shit on the flute is named Greg Pattillo.
His band is Project Trio. Check out their Facebook.
Tea Party Shirts
I don't think I really need to add anything here. Well played, awesome internet person with photoshop skills...
As per usual, hat tip to Dr. Karlson. Thank god he doesn't do any actual work at the office, so we get all these great internet finds!
Neo Lebowski
The Dude meets Morpheus. And awesomeness happens...
Hat tip to Dr. Karl Karlson for this clip. Amazeballs.
Amazing Face Shot
My buddy Corey, aka Hard Core, aka Hard Corey, sent this link out... WOW.
Homegirl from the Amazing Race gets a watermelon right in the fucking kisser!
Hi-larious. x
Restoring Truthiness
There is a campaign to get Stephen Colbert to host a "Restoring Truthiness" rally in D.C. on 10/10/10.
If this happens, I will be there... Fact.
Marilyn Powers
This is actually a make-up-free Marilyn fucking Manson dresses as Kenny fucking Powers...
Hat tip to my boy B-Rock, aka B-Rabbit, aka Brian for the link.
From Yahoo Music:
Believe it or not, the mullet-wearing man in this photo is actually controversial shock-rocker and performance artist Marilyn Manson.
The 41-year-old (real name: Brian Warner) is rarely seen without his goth-like heavy white makeup, black-rimmed eyes, and red lips, so why is he sporting such a distinctly all-American look in this photo?
According to Interview magazine's website, which published the photo, it's because Manson is a huge fan of a certain TV show.
Interview reports that Manson is a "diehard" fan of HBO's "Eastbound & Down," the critically worshiped comedy starring Danny McBride as a washed-up former baseball star whose trademark mullet and angry face Manson is imitating in this photo.
Interview's reporter Hunter Stephenson was intrigued when he found out from "Eastbound" creators that Manson is "obsessed" with the show and its sporting protagonist, Kenny Powers. So he asked a director currently working with Manson about it.
"Whenever I see Manson, he's repeating entire chunks of dialogue and dressed like Kenny," Adam Bhala Lough, who's directing Manson in the upcoming film "Splatter Sisters," told Interview. Lough went on to say that Manson dresses like "Eastbound" character Kenny Powers all the time, and provided this photo, credited to Manson himself, as "evidence."
While it's completely believable that Manson would be a fan of the hilarious "Eastbound" -- despite his freakish exterior, Manson does have a decent sense of humor -- it's also worth noting that "Eastbound & Down" co-director David Gordon Green is also producing "Splatter Sisters." Hmmm.
"Eastbound & Down" begins its second season September 26, and "Splatter Sisters" (which co-stars Manson's on-again, off-again flame, Evan Rachel Wood) is due out next year.
Lights Over Paris
This group is getting some serious buzz. And it's justifiable.
Lights Over Paris, with their already-a-hit single, "Turn Off the Lights"
I'm going to their New York label showcase on September 24th at the Canal Room.
Let me know if you want to come and I'll add you to my guest list. x
Danger Danger
Wow. I could not have said it better my fucking self. Well put, Jeff. Dangerbird is an independent label based out of Los Angeles, CA if you were unaware. They gained some big press when their hit rock band Silversun Pickups were nominated for a "Best New Artist" Grammy last year.
It is so comforting to know that I am not alone in my thinking about this clusterfuck of a goddamn business...
From HypeBot:
"I don't want to hear some guy chomping on a cigar in Beverly Hills telling me it's all gone pear-shaped. The people who invented the paradigm and were trusted to run it let it run afoul. We have to fix it...There are going to be far fewer skyscrapers in the music business and many, many more squat buildings that are filled with purpose."
- Jeff Castalez, co-owner Dangerbird Records
Kanye Speaks
Wow. I am absolutely floored by this stream of thought from Kanye on his Twitter feed.
I must admit, I had almost written him off - well, his public persona, that is. I had gotten so tired of his outbursts or egocentric rants or, well, whatever the fuck he did.
Though I have always defended his production skills - which are tough to match and impossible to beat - his public face took away from his talent and his music suffered in my ears. He annoyed me, so his voice annoyed me, so most of his songs annoyed me.
Then I saw that he joined Twitter. Many of you know I am a staunch advocate of Twitter and its lightning-fast news feed, so of course I went over and checked out his first few Tweets. One was about his complaining that an Oriental rug had been late on delivery. Immediately, I thought to myself, "what a fucking asshole." I immediately stopped following and didn't look back...
Then today, I am catching up on my music industry emails and blogs, which of course includes Bob Lefsetz. And he posted Kanye's Twitter thread, where he discusses his Katrina comments about George Bush and of course, the infamous Taylor Swift interruption at the VMA's.
Here it is, and I must agree with @Lefsetz, it is quite stunning... and very, very humble...
From @KanyeWest
"I feel like they were waiting for the opportunity to go in all the way on me and when it came they beat me to a pulp"
"Even now a lot of articles start there first 2 paragraphs about how much of an asshole I am"
"I accept the idea (ideal) that perception is reality"
"When I say perception is reality I mean whatever you think is the truth... is your truth"
"Some people's truth is Kanye is racist... It's not my truth but I do believe it's my Karma.... walk with me..."
"Even though the NBC telethon was widely praised yall didn't think they was just gone let me get away with that did yall???!!!"
"With the help of strong will, a lack of impathy, a lil alcohol and extremely distasteful & bad timing ... I became George Bush over night"
"How deep is the scar... I bled hard.. cancelled tour with the number one pop star in the world ... closed the doors of my clothing office"
"Had to let employees go... for the first time I felt the impact of my brash actions ... I felt the recession from an ownership side"
